Camp Rinconada Swim
Campers will learn to swim or work on stroke development during their 30 minute daily swim lesson. A child’s swim level is assessed on the first day of camp and campers with similar abilities are grouped together. More advanced swimmers get a workout-style swim session in a 25-yard format to practice their strokes. Beginner swimmers will feature daily hands-on lessons in small focused groups that will invariably lead to rapid advancement in a child’s swim skills.
In addition to swim instruction, campers have daily swim-related workouts, free swim, time for land and camp games, crafts, and a snack. Every Friday we will have “Fun Fridays” that feature music and an extra special group event.
Is This Camp for You?
For ages 7 to 12 years (on the first day of camp).
Camp is for kids who are comfortable in the water, enjoy social group situations, and respond well to instruction
Ideal before any family vacation that includes water activities!
Daily Swim Lesson
Every day, campers will receive a 30 minute group swim lesson led by our Swim School’s Swim Instructors.
To ensure your child starts Camp at the appropriate level of instruction, parents will be asked a series of questions during the registration process pertaining to your child’s current swim abilities. The answers provided for each camper will be reviewed by Swim School Leads to group swimmers into their appropriate level for each week of Camp.
During the first swim lesson, instructors will go through each skill within that level’s curriculum and assess whether swimmers are in the appropriate level class. The Instructor and Swim School Lead will confirm which level best suits swimmers based on current abilities, comfort, and safety. If staff decide that the level is too easy or too difficult for the swimmer, they will be moved to the appropriate class based on their evaluation.
If your child is joining us with swim experience from a program that is not associated with Menlo/Palo Alto Swim and Sport, please keep in mind that other school’s levels and curriculum may differ. To help set your child up for success, please take a look at our Levels & Classes page prior to registration!
At the end of the week-long camp, each camper will take home a Swim Certificate that will include the skills your child practiced, what skills were passed, and whether they can move on to the next level for future lessons. If children are signed up for multiple weeks of Camp, our Swim School Leads will track students who are promoted to the next level so that campers are placed into the correct class each week they attend.
Open Swim
After their daily swim lesson and field games, campers will enjoy 1 hour of Open Swim in the Play Pool!
Open Swim is for campers to enjoy swimming outside of the instructional environment. Campers will splash and swim with their new friends and play fun water games led by our amazing counselors! Open Swim is a great way to build water confidence and improve swim skills while having a blast.
Field Activities
Every day our campers will participate in some of their favorite camp games, sports, relays and obstacle courses. On Wednesdays, they will also have a chance to show off their creativity with Tie Dye. Campers will pick out their favorite colors and show them off at the end of the week. Field activities provide the perfect time to stay active and have dryland fun!
Extended Camp Rinconada
Extended Camp Rinconada is just the ticket for your child to re-energize, play social games, advance some new skills or listen to music! Tried and true, our Palo Alto Swim and Sport counselors provide a safe and lively afternoon of new and varied activities, full of opportunities for the campers to mix and mingle; build and create; or have fun with more sports! The kids won’t miss a beat, as they seamlessly transition to the afternoon segment of their day of excitement. Campers will have free swim during Extended Camp, but swim lessons will NOT be provided.

The aide will complete a LiveScan background check and we need to receive the clearance prior to the first day of camp. Aides accompanying campers must be fully vaccinated for Covid-19.
Q: Can my child check themselves in and out of Camp?
A: Campers 12 years of age and older or campers that have siblings in camp 12 years of age or older may check themselves in and out of camp with your authorization. KidCheck FAQ
Q: Does my spouse/partner or other guardians need to create a KidCheck account too?
A: Yes, but do not have them add the child onto their account. Once your spouse/partner or other guardians create their KidCheck account you should add them onto your account (the account with the child) as a Guardian.
Q: Why can’t my spouse/partner or other guardians just add the child onto their account?
A: Since KidCheck doesn’t collect personal information like the child’s social security number, your direct relation to the child, or other guardian’s direct relation to the child, or to you, the system won’t recognize the child on separate accounts as being the same child.
Q: The parent of another child and I will be taking turns dropping off or picking up our kids. How do we set this up in KidCheck?
A: First you both will create your separate KidCheck accounts and add only your own child onto your accounts. Then you will add them as a guardian on your account, and they will add you as a guardian onto their account.
Q: I’ve added my child and they are listed in the “Kids” tab but it says “You have not been authorized for any children”. Why is that?
A: Under the “Kids” tab there are two sections. The first section is “My Kids”. Under this section any child you add to your account will show and since they are your kids you automatically have authorization for them. The second section is “Kids I’m Authorized For”. This section will show the kids of other parents that have added you as an authorized guardian for their kids. If you are planning on picking up or dropping off kids other than your own and do not see their names listed under the “Kids I’m Authorized For” section, you need to contact their parent and ask them to add you as an authorized guardian for their child.
